Gaming in Education! Meludia

Image
Gaming in education can have it's benefits and downfalls depending on how the information is approached or intended use of technology in gaming. I came across an interactive gamified form of learning music and music theory that is advertised for kids, young adults, and adults in various degrees of learning from beginner to advanced. My colleague, Kelsey (in photos), and I played around with the Meludia free program to test out some aspects of the game version of music theory. The program has a multi-level sub-category mini-lesson agendas to progress skill of listening implementations at the beginning level. It is unknown with the beginning levels to determine the depth of theory in written or aural comprehension.   Kelsey is testing out the Ascending or Descending portion of the Meludia program. It is a click-based program that prompts students for the activity in a simplistic design. There are two choices of Ascending and Descending that are chosen after a ...

Digital Storybook!

I created a short video using Zimmer Twins, Digital Story studio system to depict my digital self! A short 1 minute or so video for fun. I didn't grow up with the capacity or access to using technology via internet growing up until middle and high school during the early 2000's. Most of my time using technology was used creating tedious and notorious power points and research fixated for an objective, never getting to explore the bounds of education. I tend to keep to myself and only use technology as a means of mild communication or finding tidbits of information regarding specific subjects I enjoy. http://zimmertwinsatschool.com/node/157080

Semester Recap! Integrating Technology

Image
The end of the semester is upon us! Integrating Technology course has been fun, has been stressful, and has brought a higher understanding of potential implications and standards associates with technology in the classroom! The implications of technology can be given in a model known as SAMR that stands for substitution, augmentation, modification, and redefinition that is paired with standards, that have a varying use of degree upon the schools resources depending on technology access, known as International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) for students and educators (https://www.iste.org/). Learning to implement and identify each of these concepts and ideas, I have learned a great deal in knowing how to adapt and differentiate my classroom for student with and without disabilities through the use of technology and the internet. Ted Talk, Sugata Mitra Review (EDU 622)

Sugata compares the Victorian Era use of producing contemporary models of citizens that were, or should be, identical in every way in order to allow relocation and keep a stable function in society. Unfortunately, the production has not changed since then, so modern day production of citizens are not meeting the needs and standards of the growing world and society. His experiment poses that society and the people in it have the capabilities and adaptability to grow and understand technology that has never been or may have never been accessible to that group ever. I think this has a great impact that could be used in modern day teaching, online or offline, by the sheer curiosity babies and children show on an every day basis. If you're a parent, you know about the questions! Well, what if the kid was able to actively apply that curiosity as an everyday activity? I believe that results would show an early mastery of certain skill and knowledge sets, just like Sugata observed in h...
